What caused the death of following airmen, missing believed killed in action (Flight Global), buried in the Sage War Cem., Germany:
P/O Edgar H. CROSS - 79088, and
P/O Reginald W. NEWMAN - 79072.
It's possible they were aboard SS Abukir en route from Ostend, Belgium to U.K. and torpedoed near lightship 'Noordhinder' or another ship torpedoed same date en route from Dunkirk to U.K.
Also have 28 other names commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial and killed same date.
Regards and thanks for your help.
Henk.

Thanks as well Finn for this confirmation. Please allow me to enter the remaining names of my 'unaccounted' list for 28-5-1940 and on the Runnymede Memorial on this board, for a check whether they were aboard a ship enroute to the U.K.
Regards,
Henk.

Hello Henk and Finn,
Just had a look on your list and found the following :
F/Lt Georges L.P. Zech
On the list I looked at :
F/Lt Zech-Dupont Georges , he is Belgian.
In front of his name the following letters ;
R.M. = Runny Mede could this be Medical evacuation.
There is no flying function written for him , ground officer ?
Best regards
Rene

Thanks Finn for your help; will amend my file on 'Abukir-casualties'. No idea what means "3 (Air) Mission".
Rene: ZECH is listed by the CWGC as ZECH and not ZECH-DUPONT. "RM" means that he is missing and his name commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial (Memorial for missing airmen).
He may have been a ground officer because he was aged 39.
Regards,
Henk.
